Φ6/12 MoSi2 Heating Elements: The Most Versatile Size

Φ6/12 MoSi2 Heating Elements: The Most Versatile Size

The Φ6/12 element (6 mm hot zone, 12 mm cold end) is the workhorse of the MoSi2 world. It carries enough current for general box and tube furnaces, yet stays compact enough for most chamber geometries — which is why it is the size we ship most often.

Specification at a glance

Parameter Φ6/12 value
Hot-zone diameter 6 mm
Cold-end diameter 12 mm
Typical max current (air, steady state) ~350 A
Surface load at 1600°C (planning) ~12 W/cm²
Common grades EQ1700, EQ1800, EQ1850
Typical use General box / tube furnaces, sintering, heat treatment

These figures are planning values; confirm against the surface-load and current-limits table and the complete MoSi2 spec sheet.

Why Φ6/12 is the default

At ~350 A it delivers the wattage most mid-size furnaces need without the bulk of a Φ9/18 leg. It scales across all three grades, so the same geometry serves a 1650°C ceramic firing (EQ1700), a dental sinter (EQ1800), or a 1750°C lab run (EQ1850). It is the size behind most of our sintering-furnace and tube-furnace element sets.

What are Φ 6/12 MoSi2 elements?

Φ 6/12 has a 6 mm hot zone and 12 mm cold end; it is the most versatile size, balancing power and chamber fit for many furnaces.

Where are Φ 6/12 elements used?

They serve ceramic sintering, heat treatment and general high-temperature furnaces needing moderate power up to 1700–1800°C.

What grades come in Φ 6/12?

Φ 6/12 elements are supplied in EQ1700U, EQ1800U and EQ1850U grades for 1700–1850°C operation.

What surface load applies?

Typical MoSi2 surface load is 4–9 W/cm², chosen with furnace size and atmosphere.
