CU SiC Heating Elements

This type is “U”-shaped, consisting of a combination of one each of the types U and CU respectively. It is a single-phase heating element with both cold ends in one direction, facilitating increased furnace design flexibility, because connection terminals can be centered on one side. In addition, a furnace with an energy saving structure can be built because the number of heating element holes on the furnace can be reduced compared with the U or CU types.

Q: How does the CU type differ from a standard U type SiC element?
The CU type combines one U section and one CU section so that both cold ends leave the furnace in the same direction. It works as a single phase element with the connection terminals centered on one side of the furnace.
Q: Why choose an element with both cold ends on one side?
Terminals on one wall give more freedom in furnace design and reduce the number of heating element holes in the furnace shell compared with the U or CU types, so less heat is lost through the wall.
Q: What temperature can the CU type hold?
Plan on furnace temperatures up to about 1450°C for standard silicon carbide grades. Check the atmosphere as well, because nitrogen, hydrogen and alkali vapours lower the practical ceiling.
Q: Can a CU element replace an element from another supplier?
In most cases yes, provided the overall length, hot zone length, diameter and resistance match. Send the dimensions and the resistance of the old element and our engineers will confirm whether it is a direct replacement.
