Open-Air Resistive Heating with SiC or MoSi₂ Elements — No Furnace, No Atmosphere Control Both…
Add Remote Temperature Control to Your Atmosphere Furnace (3 Budget Tiers)
A customer recently asked us for a high-temperature atmosphere furnace they could drive entirely from a PC — so the operator never has to stand by the hot zone while it ramps. The short answer is that you usually do not need a brand-new furnace. Most modern atmosphere furnaces already have an RS485 / Modbus or DB9 controller port, and a remote-control kit turns the furnace you own into a PC-supervised system. Here are three budget tiers.
Note: These control systems are optional upgrades bundled with your furnace — we do not sell the controllers as standalone units. Pick a tier when you order a furnace, or ask us about retrofitting a furnace you already own.
Why remote control is a safety upgrade
- Operators stay clear of the hot face during ramp and soak — program the profile once, then walk away.
- Automatic alarm and shutdown on fault (Pro and Industrial tiers) means no one has to babysit the run.
- Timestamped data logs give you a permanent record for quality control and audits.
- Repeatable recipes — load the same ramp/soak program every time instead of dialing it in by hand.
Three budget tiers
| Tier | Controller | Best for | What you get | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry | Delixi PID + RS485 module | Occasional use, tight budget | Remote setpoint + CSV temperature logging | Add-on: $195 |
| Pro | Hailin + high-temp probe + alarm | Long, high-frequency lab runs | Remote control + auto alarm / shutdown on fault | Add-on: $417 |
| Industrial | Honeywell SCADA system | Factory multi-furnace lines | Centralized control of several furnaces + full interlocks | Add-on: $2,778 |
How to choose
- Budget and run frequency: occasional checks → Entry; daily long runs → Pro.
- One furnace or a line: a single lab furnace is fine with Entry/Pro; a production battery needs the Industrial SCADA tier.
- Do you need automatic shutdown? If operator safety is the whole point, pick Pro or Industrial — the alarm unit cuts power on over-temperature or thermocouple failure.
Will it work with my furnace?
If your temperature controller has an RS485 / Modbus or DB9 port — standard on most PID controllers shipped in the last ten years — a kit will talk to it. Because the kit communicates with the controller rather than the heating elements, it works whether your atmosphere furnace is heated by MoSi2 (up to about 1850°C in air) or SiC (up to about 1600°C). Send us your controller model and we will confirm the exact wiring and software.

Why specify with HeatingDriver
HeatingDriver is a manufacturer and exporter of MoSi2 and SiC heating elements with nearly 20 years of experience, plus the control add-ons to make them safer and easier to run. We supply the three remote-control tiers above, free drawing review, and technical support for furnace builders worldwide. See the full furnace control range.
Can I add remote control to the atmosphere furnace I already have?
In most cases, yes. If your furnace temperature controller has an RS485 / Modbus or DB9 communication port – standard on most PID controllers shipped in the last decade – a remote-control kit lets a PC read and adjust the setpoint and log the whole run. Send us your controller model and we will confirm compatibility.
What is the cheapest way to monitor furnace temperature from a PC?
The Entry kit (Delixi PID controller + RS485 module + high-temperature probe) starts at $195. It gives remote setpoint adjustment and CSV temperature logging so an operator does not have to stand next to the furnace during a run.
Does remote control actually make the furnace safer for operators?
Yes. You program the full heating ramp on a PC, then step away from the hot zone. The Pro and Industrial tiers add an alarm unit and automatic shutdown on over-temperature or thermocouple failure, so no one needs to be present while the furnace is ramping or soaking.
Can one system control several furnaces at once?
The Industrial Honeywell tier is built for that. It centralizes multiple furnaces under one SCADA console with live temperature and vacuum curves and per-furnace safety interlocks – ideal for production heat-treating, sintering and annealing lines.
Do these kits work with MoSi2 and SiC heated furnaces?
Yes. The kit talks to the furnace controller, not the heating elements, so it works whether your atmosphere furnace is heated by MoSi2 (up to about 1850 deg C in air) or SiC (up to about 1600 deg C).
